The first thing to realize is that fountains take up a lot of space. So it’s important to choose a space that allows for the fountain, the pump, and any surrounding affects such as plants and benches. For these reasons, it’s probably best to install a fountain only where the home and property belongs to you. If you’re renting a property, it may be a better idea to buy a wall fountain for indoors or the patio. Many of these are a little smaller and more portable.
Different materials produce a different esthetic quality. More importantly, some materials react to different environments in ways that might surprise you. For example, it’s important to remember that water is a corrosive agent, so, over time, it can change the surface of the fountain if it’s made from stone. When calcium build-up occurs, it’s easier to clean it from some materials than others. If the fountain isn’t clean, calcium build-up will damage the fountain and the pump that pushes water through it. All of these issues need to be considered when looking at the material for the fountain.
The all-important issue is cost. These fountains range anywhere from $150.00 to $3,000.00 depending on their size and complexity. Besides the cost of the fountain itself, one needs to consider the cost of the water for the fountain. It’s recommended that distilled water be the water of choice. Gallons of distilled water can be pricy. The cost of standard water from the hose varies depending if you have to pay the cost of water from the city or from a well. Either way, it’s always a good idea to weigh the monetary consequences.
Without a doubt, the soothing sounds of an outdoor garden water fountain would bring peace to any space. But before making that purchase, consider all of the costs and maintenance routines carefully.
