I still fondly remember those days long ago of hanging out by the outdoor fire pit with just close family, friends and my dog. Growing up out in the country, an outdoor fire pit was just a standard fixture in our yard. And, believe it or not, we had one right next to a deep wood's creek. Is that incredible, or what! Lounging around a crackling fire and roasting hot dogs, and then a few marshmallows of course.
Yeah, it just doesn't get much better than that! Those sure were the good old days. Everything was centered around the simple things in life that made us so happy. So, have you set up an outdoor fire pit on your patio or deck yet? It's practical and can be enjoyed all year-round.
Are you one of those few people who grew up lighting fires on an almost daily basis? Whether it was a barbeque grill, a woodstove, an indoor fireplace, a campfire or even an outdoor fire pit? Starting a nice warm crackling fire can be an almost mystical experience. And this is especially so when lighting an outdoor fire pit.
When I was a kid we always had a rustic homemade fire pit right out in the yard. It was just a decent sized hole dug in the dirt, with a circle of stones around it. We added a circle of sand a couple feet around it so that when red-hot embers come shooting out of the fire pit there was no danger of a grass fire starting.
But in the end, the fire was all about the wood. If you stacked it neatly inside the dirt fire pit you could keep a roaring fire burning all night long. As far as I'm concerned, it was a wonderful, but nearly free, luxury.
In today's modern times though, I would prefer to have my fire pit conveniently located right in the middle of my patio or deck. Wouldn't it be great to have a nice big patio or deck with a really nice modern and safe fire pit right in the center? I think you would find it to be a definite asset on a cold fall or winter night as you and your family lounge outside enjoying the warmth around your outdoor fire pit. Now that's what I call living the high-life!
